1. 참는데도 한계가 있어 (wear thin)
Hey, my patience is wearing thin.

2. 원칙대로, 규칙대로, 깔끔하게 (by the book)
I just did it by the book.
à 난 그냥 원칙대로 했을 뿐이야.
The boss wants everything done by the book.
à 상사는 모든 걸 규칙대로 하길 원해.
My Boss wants to do everything by the book
3. 내가 제대로 했다면 도대체 왜…
If I did everything by the book, then why is this happening?
à 내가 다 원칙대로 했는데, 왜 이런 일이 생기는 거야?
If we followed the rules, it begs the question—what went wrong?
à 우리가 규칙을 다 지켰다면, 도대체 뭐가 문제였던 거지?
4. 이해하기 어려워, 황당한 세상이야 (wrap my head around it)
I can’t wrap my head around it.
→ 이거 도저히 이해가 안 돼.
It’s so crazy, I can hardly wrap my mind around it.
→ 너무 황당해서 이해가 안 돼.
5. 무질서, 개판, 무한경쟁 (free-for-all)
Once the doors opened, it turned into a free-for-all.
→ 문이 열리자마자 난장판이 됐어.
The comments section is a total free-for-all.
→ 댓글 창 완전 개판이야.
6. 사람 잘못 봤어 (You’ve got the wrong idea about me)
You’ve got me all wrong.
→ 나 완전 잘못 보고 있네.
I think you’ve got the wrong idea about me.
→ 나에 대해 오해하고 있는 것 같은데.
7. 앞뒤가 안 맞네, 모순이네 (mixed message)
You’re sending mixed messages.
→ 너 말이랑 행동이 다르잖아.
Don’t you think that’s a mixed message?
→ 그거 앞뒤가 안 맞는 거 아니야?
8. 그 정도면 양반이지 (There’s worse than...)
It could be worse.
→ 그 정도면 다행이지.
There are worse things than that.
→ 그것보다 더한 일도 많아.
9. 솔직하게 말하다 (level with)
Let me level with you.
→ 솔직히 말할게.
Can I level with you for a second?
→ 잠깐 솔직히 말해도 돼?
10. 못마땅하게 여겨진다, 비난 받는다 (frown upon)
It’s frowned upon in this culture.
→ 이 문화에서는 그거 별로 안 좋아해.
Drinking in public is frowned upon here.
→ 여기서는 공공장소에서 술 마시는 거 못마땅하게 봐.
His mother frowned on his decision.
→ 그의 어머니는 그 결정이 못마땅했어.
